To keep the stranded whales, very helpful groups of people used big buckets of water to try to save the whales. By doing this, they kept the whales hydrated and not dry. Another group of people also placed towels on them which I think was another smart method to keep the whales alive and hydrated.
Activity two:
The movie, Whale Rider is about a girl named, Paikia who wants to be someone and fulfill something that she thinks and believes she can be but the people around her, like her Grandfather disapproves of what she believes in what she can be.
My Ratings on this movie: 4.5/5 I think that this movie should be recognised by more people especially children, so that they get the message of believing in yourself no matter what gender, race or colour you are because anything is possible.
Bonus Activity:
I think that fishing in the FareWell Spit areas should be banned because as a New Zealand citizen I think that killing dolphins is very cruel and selfish. If we let people fish in those areas our future generations won't be able to admire the beauty and magnificence of these wonderful creatures that we have in New Zealand.
I chose to adopt the yellow-crowned kakariki, commonly known as the Kakariki.
Features: The bird looks like a kakariki with a yellow crown. Also a red band in front of and behind the eye in the red-crowned does not extend behind the eye as the Red-crowned kakariki does.
Habitat/distribution:Kakarikis inhabit in the North & South Islands and is slowly making their way to the Stewart Island. They are also high forest dwellers especially in old growth beech and podocarp forests.
Principal threats:
- Loss of habitats
- Introduced predators such as stoats and ship rats
I think New Zealand made a good choice to try and get rid of the possums because they are putting our native birds in danger and causing them to decrease in population. However, I think that we shouldn't kill the possums but we should trap them and maybe take them away from places where the native birds live and put them in caged areas, where they can still eat and not kill any birds.
I really enjoyed exploring the Tane Mahuta walk because of the huge trees and the beautiful views of the plants and the landscape.
I also enjoyed the Rangitoto Island because of the huge mountain that was bigger than I thought and the caves and rocks.
The KareKare beach was my third favourite. I loved looking at the beach and the beautiful sights of New Zealand.
These are my three favourite activities I enjoyed the most and here is my journal diary thoughts on exploring the wonders and beauty of New Zealand. 09.07.17 Dear Diary, You wouldn't believe what had happened today! I explored the best parts of New Zealand with my family and it was the best experience I have had in my whole entire life. I haven't the most fun in my life. My favourite part of the trip was probably getting to see the sunset view at the KareKare beach. ________________________________________________________________________ Questions I'd ask Laura Dekker if I interviewed her:
Were you nervous about sailing the whole world by yourself?
Who inspired you to do this?
If you could, would you try this experience again?
Out of all the countries or islands you sailed past, what was your favourite?
Did anything go wrong while you were sailing? _____________________________________________________________________
From my point of view, I think that this describes New Zealand as a clean green country and defines us with the tree and the blue colour, which reminds me of the flowing rivers we have in our country and the beautiful ocean.
Three interesting facts about the early people of New Zealand:
Over four hundred years ago, Christopher Columbus and Europe was concerned about falling off the edge of the world. The Maori people voyaged thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean in small canoes. As the Maori people voyaged they became the very first inhabitants of New Zealand.
The New Zealand Europeans were also strong, brave and they knew how to handle things independently. The Europeans cleared lands which was also very hard and risk-taking jobs to do. By doing these jobs, they became very skilled and knew how to do multiple things without help.
For as long as New Zealand has been around, many tourists have been coming to visit our beautiful country. Kiwis have had a passion and learnt to love the nature and delight of the outdoors. They have taken notice of the beauty and excitement of our spectacular landscape. ____________________________________________________________________My five favourite activities from the video I watched:
